Message I'm sure many of you have felt this before. Just as you're getting to a point where your Z is where you want it, shit happens. It always does, doesn't it? I guess that's Murphy for ya.

It's the DAY BEFORE I'm heading up to Famoso (our best dragstrip) to put my car into the 11s. Well, I was hoping to anyways. Can't claim it until you do it, right? Well...it was bad enough that I had one cracked exhaust manifold (passenger side) but now I have TWO. Worst of all, the driver's side one is much worse. At least on the passenger side, tie noise would flutter on the heat shield until the car warmed up. Thankfully cast iron expands when hot and it seemed to close the hole for the most part. However, my new driver's side crack is far worse. When I give it gas, the car makes that fluttering noise all the time. It goes down quite a bit when it gets really hot, but it is still there. This also began right after I noticed I couldn't hold the same boost I used to. At the strip my 1.35 peak dropped to 1.19 on the same night with tons of cooldown. I put race gas in again last night and the story was the same.

Frankly, this blows. I can live with a slightly slower car...hell, it is still damn quick. What I can't live with is the sound. It sounds horrible and it feels like I'm driving a junker. Can you imagine needing to pull your motor because of the SOUND it makes? What a crock of shit. I'm so fed up with the design of this car. I defend it and defend it all the time..."service isn't that bad if you know your way around it" I always say. Well right now, fuck that.

Meh. I'm still going to the track tomorrow because I've put in so much time and effort to get to this event. Not to mention Dean might run his 10 second pass and I just can't miss that. But right now I really could give a rat's ass what it runs but a decent time would keep me motivated. As absurd as it is, I don't know if I can handle my car being down for a year or so. I just started looking for a house and even if I was ready to upgrade, the time isn't there. So maybe there's two lessons learned here: 1) Don't get so caught up daily driving your Z that you can't live without it and 2) if you drive a LOT, get flex joints. For a few bucks more it might save you a cracked exhaust manifold (or two):/

P.S. Yes, this is a small setback compared to other things in life, but damnit, I had the car JUST right. Argh.
